This is an exciting time to join SYMCA. As an Established Mayoral Strategic Authority, we are taking on greater powers and responsibilities through devolution, including the implementation of Integrated Settlement arrangements that will allow us to align investment more closely with the priorities of South Yorkshire's communities, businesses and places.
We are expanding our analytical capability and putting evidence at the heart of decision-making. As Lead Performance Analyst, you will play a key role in helping the organisation understand its performance, track progress against strategic priorities and ensure leaders have the information they need to make informed decisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced analyst who is passionate about performance reporting, data visualisation and using insight to drive organisational improvement. You will lead a small team and help shape how performance is measured and reported across the organisation.
If you think you'd be a great fit for this role but you’re not sure you meet every requirement equally, we'd still welcome your application.
We welcome applications from candidates who are seeking to work part time (4 days a week or more) or as part of a job share.
Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter to detail how you meet the criteria set out below. Please note, all applications should be made directly via our careers portal.
Please set out clearly in your cover letter how you meet the following criteria from the role profile:
- Significant experience of developing performance indicators and outcomes-focused performance frameworks, with a strong understanding of how they contribute to organisational decision-making
- Significant experience of using Power BI to design and build reports and visualisations in a business environment
- Experience of developing and managing mechanisms for reporting to external authorities on progress towards achieving outputs and outcomes
About The Role
As Lead Performance Analyst, you will lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of SYMCA's corporate performance reporting framework.
Working closely with the Principal: Corporate Planning and Performance, you will oversee the production of high-quality performance reports for senior audiences including the Executive Leadership Board, MCA Board and Government. You will help develop reporting that demonstrates progress against corporate priorities, organisational objectives and long-term outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
