About The Job You're Considering
We are seeking a Lead Performance Engineer to lead a team of performance engineers delivering assurance across complex client programmes. You will set the performance strategy, define and agree non-functional requirements and quality gates, and ensure systems are scalable, resilient and ready for production.
Working with engineering, architecture, DevOps, SRE, cloud and business teams, you will embed performance engineering throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Hybrid working
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time. If you are offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back three continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service).

- Strong experience in enterprise performance engineering and non-functional testing.
- Experience leading and technically directing performance engineering teams.
- Hands-on expertise with performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, NeoLoad, Gatling or k6.

- Experience testing web applications, APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of cloud-native, containerised and modern application architectures.
- Experience integrating performance testing within CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience using monitoring, observability and telemetry tools to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Strong root-cause analysis, diagnostics and performance tuning skills.
- Experience defining performance requirements, workloads, test data, baselines and acceptance criteria.
- Understanding of capacity planning, scalability, resilience and production readiness.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and consulting skills, with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with architects, developers, DevOps, SRE, platform teams and third-party suppliers.
- Ability to lead, coach and develop technical specialists while maintaining delivery quality and standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
