About the Company
We are seeking an experienced Planning Lead to join the team delivering a major civil engineering and infrastructure project. This is a key position responsible for providing effective planning, scheduling and project performance reporting support to the wider project management and construction teams.
About the Role
The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering contracting, with particular experience in tunnelling and ground engineering works. You will take ownership of detailed project programmes, monitor delivery and ensure potential risks, delays and opportunities are identified and managed effectively.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain detailed, resource-loaded construction programmes.
- Review programme outputs to ensure they meet project requirements and delivery expectations.
- Produce visual planning materials to support proposed construction methods and sequencing.
- Undertake programme risk analysis and identify potential impacts on project delivery.
- Work closely with the construction, technical, design and commercial teams to coordinate project activities.
- Establish appropriate planning methods, sequencing and productivity outputs in consultation with the project team and supply chain.
- Coordinate temporary works design activities with the Temporary Works Manager, ensuring designs are completed and approved ahead of construction.
- Produce justified schedules for temporary works and other indirect cost activities.
- Introduce approved changes into the programme and monitor their impact on progress.
- Programme compensation events and support the assessment of contractual changes.
- Develop early-stage programmes to support coordinated interface management.
- Review contract documents and use the information to build and maintain programmes specifying time and resource requirements.
- Produce internal and external programmes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review construction progress with the delivery team, update programmes and issue progress reports.
- Identify areas of concern and work with the technical and construction teams to develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Evaluate scope changes, additional work orders and other programme impacts.
- Coordinate with the commercial team regarding the cost and contractual implications of programme changes.
- Support the coordination and monitoring of subcontractor programmes.
- Incorporate subcontractor information into the main project programme.
- Ensure established planning procedures and techniques are consistently followed.
- Provide clear planning information, reports and advice to project stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve project performance, efficiency and delivery.
- Support the successful completion of the project on time or ahead of programme.

Qualifications
- An HNC or equivalent qualification in a construction-related discipline, or extensive relevant experience within the civil engineering contracting industry.
- Demonstrable planning experience within tunnelling and ground engineering projects.
- Experience using a range of planning techniques across tendering and live project delivery.
- Strong understanding of the commercial and contractual interfaces associated with the planning function.
- Experience preparing, updating and managing detailed construction programmes.
- Good understanding of temporary works, construction sequencing and subcontractor coordination.
- Competent user of relevant industry planning software.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Microsoft Project.
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and supply-chain partners.

You will be a proactive and commercially aware planning professional who can work effectively across multiple project disciplines. You will be comfortable challenging programme information, identifying delivery risks and presenting clear recommendations to senior project stakeholders.
You will have a collaborative approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to remain focused in a complex, fast-paced project environment. A commitment to health and safety, quality and continuous improvement is essential.
