About Melksham Oak Community School

Melksham Oak Community School is a large, thriving 11-18 secondary school where students of all abilities, aptitudes and social backgrounds are nurtured, encouraged and challenged to achieve their very best.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was rated GOOD in all areas, reflecting the dedication, ambition and commitment of our staff and wider school community.

About The Role

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and highly effective teacher to join Melksham Oak Community School as a Lead Practitioner Raising Standards in English, Mathematics or Science. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong practitioner with the expertise, credibility and determination to improve outcomes for pupils across a key subject area.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Curriculum Leader, the successful candidate will play a central role in securing excellent curriculum implementation, effective assessment practice and targeted catch-up and keep-up provision. They will use data intelligently to identify pupils at risk of underachievement, lead evidence-informed strategies to raise standards, and personally deliver high-impact intervention including small-group support, one-to-one tuition, examination preparation and before- or after-school provision.

This role would suit a teacher who combines excellent subject knowledge with a clear commitment to inclusion, high expectations and measurable improvement. You will model strong classroom practice, support colleagues through collaboration and professional learning, and contribute directly to the school’s ambition for sustained improvement in attainment, progress and achievement.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are motivated by the opportunity to remove barriers to success for pupils, strengthen subject outcomes, and contribute to a culture of academic excellence. The post is available in English, Mathematics or Science.

All About You

You will be a highly organised and proactive operational leader with experience of managing a range of business and support functions within a complex organisation. With excellent communication and relationship-building skills, you will be confident working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, acting as a trusted link between school teams and central services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
