You might currently be a Primary Maths Teacher, Maths Subject Leader, Primary Teacher, Maths Lead, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Teaching and Learning Lead or Maths Specialist.

Your job title matters less to us than the expertise you've developed.

You'll need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and substantial successful experience teaching mathematics in the primary phase - we're looking for at least five years.

Crucially, you'll also need experience of teaching, leading or supporting mathematics in mixed-age settings.

You'll have a deep understanding of the Primary Mathematics National Curriculum and how mathematical knowledge develops and progresses across year groups.

You'll understand that a great resource needs to do much more than look good on a page. It needs to be mathematically accurate, carefully sequenced, grounded in evidence and – most importantly – work for the teacher standing in front of a class.

We're also looking for someone ready to lead.

You'll have experience of supporting and developing colleagues and the confidence to provide guidance, feedback and direction while creating an environment where other specialists can do their best work.

Person Specification – Core Competencies

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Educated to degree level
• Experience of teaching, leading or supporting mathematics in mixed-age settings.
• Substantial (at least 5 years) and successful experience of teaching mathematics in the primary phase.
• Evidence of improving outcomes for cohorts of young people at primary level.
• Experience in developing teaching resources and/or digital learning materials.
• Experience of leading, supporting or developing colleagues.

Desirable:

• Master’s degree or further study in mathematics education or leadership.
• Experience of working with multiple schools, trusts, teaching school hubs or subject networks.
• Experience of working with mixed-age schools across different organisational models.
• Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating professional development for teachers or school leaders.

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential:

• Deep and secure knowledge of the statutory primary mathematics curriculum and progression across year groups.
• Strong understanding of principles and characteristics of outstanding teaching and learning in primary mathematics.
• Knowledge of effective review, evaluation, and school improvement practices.
• Awareness of current educational policy, pedagogy, and research relevant to maths education.
• Understanding of adaptive teaching and how mixed-age resources can maintain ambition while responding to different starting points.
• Up-to-date knowledge of mathematics education research, national policy and curriculum reform, including developments arising from CAR.
• Understanding of the use of technology, ICT tools, and data to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment.

Desirable:

• Strong understanding of curriculum sequencing and progression in mixed-age contexts.
• Knowledge of international maths curricula and comparative approaches to primary mathematics.
