Ably Resources are recruiting for an experienced Lead Primary Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation delivering major HV/EHV substation projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior/principal primary design engineer to take technical ownership of complex transmission and distribution projects, working across AIS and GIS substations from initial design through to project completion.
You will lead primary engineering activities across a range of HV substation projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure designs are delivered to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Leading primary design and engineering activities from concept through to as-built stage
- Producing and reviewing substation layouts, single line diagrams and technical documentation
- Reviewing HV plant, transformer, switchgear and supplier design packages
- Preparing Design Intent Documents and technical specifications
- Coordinating interfaces with civil, protection & control and auxiliary engineering teams
- Supporting design reviews, technical meetings and construction/site activities
- Providing technical input into procurement, tendering and equipment selection

About You
- Extensive HV/EHV substation primary design experience
- Strong knowledge of AIS and GIS substations
- Experience within UK transmission or distribution networks
- Knowledge of SSEN and/or SPEN engineering standards
- Experience with earthing, protection, HV/MV cables and primary plant
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
