What you’ll be doing
The Lead Process Engineer is responsible for leading process engineering activities across our clients’ North Sea oil and gas projects, with a strong focus on brownfield modifications, late-life asset support, decommissioning, and well and facility abandonment. This role provides technical leadership to the process team, ensuring process designs and operational changes are safe, practical, cost-effective, and compliant with applicable industry standards, UK regulatory requirements, and client specifications. The Lead Process Engineer will foster a high-performance, delivery-focused environment, driving plan attainment and productivity through clear accountability for both themselves and their team, ensuring commitments are met and promises are delivered.
The successful candidate will oversee process engineering work from concept and feasibility through detailed design, offshore execution, commissioning, and decommissioning support. The role will also involve mentoring junior engineers, supporting asset integrity and operational decision-making, and driving best practice in process safety and decommissioning execution.

Business Area (day to day focus of team)
- Lead process engineering activities across brownfield, late-life, and decommissioning projects from feasibility through execution and close-out.
- Maintaining plan and budget attainment and high productivity within the teams, and holding the teams accountable for delivery to an agreed plan, owed by the Lead Process Engineer
- Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process calculations, equipment sizing, line sizing, and process specifications.
- Perform process simulations, mass and energy balances, hydraulic calculations, depressurisation studies, flare and vent system assessments, and relief system evaluations.
- Support the safe isolation, depressurisation, cleaning, flushing, purging, and hydrocarbon freeing of process systems for maintenance, modification, and decommissioning activities.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with relevant UKCS regulations, HSE requirements, client standards, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Lead or support HAZOPs, HAZIDs, Design Risk Assessments, SIL reviews, SIMOPS reviews, and other process safety studies.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to process engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, including mechanical, piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and operations disciplines.
- Review engineering deliverables for quality, accuracy, constructability, operability, and technical integrity.
- Provide input into bids and tenders as necessary
- Support procurement by preparing technical requisitions, scopes of work, and evaluating vendor documentation for process equipment and packages.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, offshore readiness reviews, FAT, SAT, and site surveys.
- Support offshore execution, commissioning, start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, and operational optimisation activities.
- Provide process engineering input to decommissioning strategies, including system isolation, hydrocarbon removal, waste management, and dismantling considerations.
- Identify opportunities for risk reduction, simplification, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and cost savings across late-life and decommissioning scopes.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and best practices aligned with North Sea operational and decommissioning requirements.
- Manage engineering schedules, budgets, and resource planning for assigned projects.
- Interface with clients, contractors, vendors, offshore personnel, and regulatory authorities as required.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, promoting continuous professional development within the engineering team.

What we need from you
- Perm position
- Full-time – 40 hrs/pw
- Location – Office Based 3 days per week/ Hybrid
What skills & experience you’ll bring to us
- Degree in Chemical / Process Engineering
- 10–15 years’ experience in Oil & Gas brownfield projects with a strong Process Engineering and Technical Safety background.
- Detailed Design experience
- Decommissioning Experience
- Prior experience on brownfield services contracts
- FEED experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Client facing skills
- Experienced Engineer with sound technical background and expertise
- Experienced in the use of, applicable codes, practices, standards, and statutory documentation
- Competent in quality control and engineering procedures
- Competent in budget control and MoC processes.
- Competent in aspects of discipline design (including multi-discipline) and use of process simulation packages
- Excellent attention to detail, diligence, and self-discipline
- Delivery focused and committed to achievement of project/company goals
