Lead Product Data Analyst
We are looking for a Lead Product Data Analyst to drive insights, guide decisions and nurture a test and learn culture within the product & engineering (P&E) department that is set for long term success.
As a Lead Analyst you will play a significant role in driving analytical best practice at the Guardian. The role requires hands-on delivery of medium sized analytics projects, persuasive storytelling skills and expert stakeholder engagement. You will lead initiatives to develop how the department understands user behaviour through rigorous testing and measurement. Working closely alongside UX Research and other insights functions, you will translate data into actionable recommendations that support decision-making at scale.
In this role, you need to model curiosity, openness, and contribute to a collaborative culture of learning, innovation and excellence.
About the role
- Maintain hands-on expertise in SQL and Python (or R) to build and query robust data models, specifically working with large datasets to support product development.
- Utilise BI tools like Tableau or Looker to monitor performance and apply statistical methods, including A/B testing and experimentation.
- Translate complex findings into well structured narratives that make clear recommendations and aid decision making at all levels within P&E.
- Deliver insights impactfully by tailoring messages for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and coach others to do the same.
- Efficiently balance a pipeline of work, keeping key stakeholders updated on progress, blockers, and key outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with UX research and other insights functions to build a culture of data driven decision making in P&E.
- Inform a year-long learning agenda, designing tests to support this, and advocate for building tracking into the product experience to align with broader organisational goals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
