The Company

Established in 1998, JSM Group designs and installs the power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems that critical industries run on from high-power grid connections and data centres to renewable energy. Our turnkey teams deliver complex infrastructure at speed, on time, and with reduced legislative, technical and commercial risk.

Role Purpose

The Lead Electrical Project Engineer will play a key role on-site in supporting the delivery of complex Data Centre, Renewable and network infrastructure projects. The role involves close coordination with design, commissioning, and construction teams. The successful candidate will oversee the quality and safety of installations, support commissioning efforts, and manage technical interfaces with internal colleagues and subcontractors.

This is a site-based role requiring frequent travel with regular attendance at JSM offices, ideal for an experienced and ambitious engineer looking to further accelerate their career in the energy infrastructure market.

Significant experience in the successful delivery of large-scale engineering or infrastructure projects from 11kV to 132kV is essential, with some experience in the construction of transmission-connected projects required.

The Lead Electrical Project Engineer sits within the Engineering team, who form part of the wider Operations department, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage site activities (electrical) across multiple new connections or infrastructure projects, from design development through to construction and final handover. Duties will involve safely coordinating and managing works within an operational open bus-bar substation for the DNO or TSO.
  • Take the lead on overseeing direct resource and subcontractor performance, ensuring all works are delivered safely and in accordance with the appropriate engineering standards and approved designs.
  • Act as the primary technical support across all electrically biased construction activities (up to 400kV), acting as the main point of reference for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Define construction strategy (electrical) for 11kV to 400kV projects, from design through to final commissioning, ensuring alignment with JSM engineering policies & procedures and approved designs.
  • Manage material and plant order requests, ensuring all plant and equipment being procured align with the approved design.
  • Ensure all site documentation, test sheets, and as-built records are completed on time and correctly. Manage the uploading of project documents onto Procure, the document management system.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues discovered during the construction phase and prepare technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with project management, design teams, and construction teams to ensure an integrated delivery.
  • Ensure construction plans and methodologies align with project requirements and integrate commissioning activities into the overall project programme.
  • Coordinate FAT & SAT attendance and ensure commissioning inputs are incorporated into project deliverables.
  • Provide technical input into bids and tenders, ensuring construction methodologies and programmes support a competitive and commercially sound tender submission.
  • Build trusted relationships with our clients, resolve escalations and drive positive customer satisfaction.
  • Represent JSM at client meetings, industry working groups and support trade exhibition events.
  • Ability to act as deputy Engineering Manager when required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
