Lead Project Manager
Location: Andover
Salary: £65,000 – £80,000 + £7,000 Car Allowance + Bonus
Hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00am–5:00pm, Friday 8:00am–4:30pm
Employment: Full-time, Permanent
The Opportunity
We are working with a well-established specialist in critical power and energy systems, with over 40 years' experience delivering solutions across the UK. The business specialises in the supply, installation, hire and maintenance of generators, UPS systems, switchgear and associated critical power infrastructure, supporting a wide range of commercial and industrial clients.
Due to continued growth within their Capital Projects division, they are looking for an experienced Lead Project Manager to take responsibility for leading a team of Project Managers and Engineers, while driving the successful delivery of complex technical projects across the business.
This is a senior position that would suit someone who combines strong people and project management experience with a technical understanding of generators and critical power systems.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager – Projects, you will lead the Project Management function across multiple complex projects, working closely with the Technical/Design, Sales, Engineering, Commercial and Finance teams.
You will play a key role in improving project delivery, quality, health & safety and financial performance, while providing leadership, mentoring and technical support to the wider project team.
Projects typically range from £150k to £5m+ in value.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a team of Project Managers and Engineers across multiple projects.
- Provide senior-level support and decision-making across all aspects of project delivery.
- Attend technical, commercial and contractual handover meetings with Sales and Technical teams.
- Support Project Managers with procurement, planning and project delivery.
- Ensure projects comply with internal processes throughout the full project lifecycle, including:
- Variations
- Payment notifications
- Programme management
- RAMS
- Health & Safety
- Design meetings
- Coordinate effectively between the Technical/Design, Project Management and Engineering teams.
- Ensure project designs are completed on time and fully aligned with customer specifications and sales orders.
- Drive high standards of performance, project delivery and customer service.
- Mentor and develop Project Managers, supporting both their technical and professional development.
- Take responsibility for the quality, technical performance and financial control of projects.
- Identify areas for improvement across the Projects department and implement effective solutions.
- Work closely with the wider Projects Management Team to ensure projects are delivered on time, to specification and to agreed quality standards.
- Attend company management meetings and contribute to wider business development.
- Review and improve the company's supply chain and identify opportunities for increased efficiency.
- Support the identification and development of talent within the industry.
- Act as a strong ambassador for the Capital Projects division and the wider business.

What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical power, standby power or associated electrical infrastructure, combined with significant experience managing complex technical projects. Candidates from closely related sectors may also be considered where they have strong technical project management and construction experience.
Essential Experience
- 10+ years' experience within a relevant technical/project environment.
- Proven experience delivering complex projects typically valued between £150k and £5m.
- Strong people management and leadership experience.
- Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong understanding of the construction industry and technical project delivery.
- Experience managing design documentation and QHSE processes and controls.
- Strong commercial awareness, including financial controls and risk management.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational, planning and decision-making ability.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Full right to work in the UK.

Desirable
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification.
- Strong experience within the critical power / standby power industry is highly desirable, ideally with exposure to diesel generators, UPS systems, switchgear, CHP, emergency power systems or associated electrical infrastructure.
- CSCS, SSSTS or SMSTS.
- Electrical or Management qualifications.
- Recognised Project Management qualification such as PRINCE2.
