At Severn Trent, we're delivering one of the largest investment programmes in the UK, investing billions to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure for customers and communities across the region.

We're looking for a Lead Project Manager to join our Capital Delivery team and lead a portfolio of projects while developing and supporting a team of Project Managers, Senior Project Managers and Project Co-ordinators.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with Capital Delivery standards, governance requirements and business priorities. Alongside project delivery, you'll play a critical role in building capability across the project management community, driving high performance and embedding consistency across ways of working.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading, developing and managing Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and Project Co-ordinators.
  • Building capability through coaching, mentoring, development planning and succession planning.
  • Leading workforce and resource planning activities to ensure projects have the right skills and capacity to meet delivery commitments.
  • Maintaining accountability for the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects.
  • Providing delivery oversight and intervention where project risks, issues or performance concerns arise.
  • Driving consistency in project management standards, governance and assurance processes.
  • Managing financial performance, forecasting, reporting and portfolio-level risks.
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders, delivery partners and supply chain organisations.
  • Preparing performance reports and updates for senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Championing health, safety and wellbeing across all projects and teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to increase efficiency through innovation and AI-enabled solutions.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience leading and managing project management teams within a capital delivery or complex delivery environment.
  • Experience overseeing the successful delivery of multiple projects or a project portfolio.
  • Strong capability in people management, workforce planning and team development.
  • Proven experience delivering significant projects and managing project performance.
  • Experience working within NEC project environments or similar capital delivery frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, controls, risk management and commercial delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret contractual and financial information.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong decision-making capability.
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day delivery leadership.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills alongside excellent IT literacy.

Qualifications

  • Project management qualification or qualified through relevant experience.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Full UK driving licence.
