I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll be doing
You'll take ownership of the organisation's approach to quality engineering and automation, helping to create scalable testing practices that improve consistency, reduce risk and support high-quality delivery. A key focus will be leading the automation strategy, ensuring automated testing becomes a core part of delivery across multiple projects. You'll design, build and maintain test frameworks using Playwright, increase automated regression coverage and work closely with developers to integrate testing into CI pipelines.
You'll also explore and implement AI-supported testing approaches, visual regression testing and other modern QA techniques that improve efficiency and confidence. Alongside the strategic responsibilities, you'll remain hands-on in project delivery, supporting testing activities across ecommerce platforms, integrations and critical customer journeys. As a senior member of the team, you'll mentor colleagues, share best practice and help foster a quality-first culture where testing is considered from discovery through to release.
