About the Role

We are looking to recruit an experienced radiotherapy engineer to lead the engineering team at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will be joining an enthusiastic, dedicated, and friendly team who create a dynamic, vibrant working environment that focuses on patient-centred care. You will work closely with the multi-professional team to improve patient treatments through the application of cutting-edge techniques and the latest radiotherapy technology.

  • Equipment: The department has 4 TrueBeams, 2 Halcyon, and a Ethos and are a Varian reference site for brachytherapy and Identify.

Compensation

You will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 pro rata per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: The post-holder will manage all aspects of the Radiotherapy Engineering Service to keep unplanned downtime and disruption of patient’s radiotherapy treatment to a minimum.
  • Safety and Accountability: The department maintains a wide range of highly specialized, complex, patient critical equipment. The engineer must therefore be able to work to a high standard of safety and be accountable.
  • Communication: The post holder must be able to communicate well between Radiotherapy staff, Radiotherapy Physics teams, and commercial manufacturers.
  • Collaborative Service: There is a collaborative service contract with Varian. The post holder will be expected to ensure that in-house maintenance, servicing, and repair of equipment within Radiotherapy, Radiation Protection, Physics, and medical equipment is performed at appropriate frequencies and to a high standard.
  • Training: This post will include the training of junior engineers through apprenticeship or alternative routes.
  • Quality System: The post holder is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the Quality System as applied to engineering.
  • Management of Engineers: The post holder manages engineers working in the cancer centre, including those working in EBME and mechanical engineering services.
