We’re looking for an experienced Risk Partner to join our Finance Risk & Controls team and make a visible impact across Finance.
Finance Risk & Controls helps Finance manage risk confidently, strengthen governance and maintain a robust control environment. We work closely with Finance teams, senior stakeholders, second line risk, internal audit and wider business areas to make sure risk, control, governance and reporting requirements are clear, embedded and delivered well.
As Lead Risk Partner, you’ll set the pace for strong risk management across Finance. You’ll provide expert risk, control and governance advice, represent the team in senior forums, and turn complex information into clear, practical insight that supports better decisions.
You’ll also lead on governance and reporting, making sure risk and control matters are reported accurately, consistently and with impact. This includes producing sharp senior management and committee reporting, supporting effective governance, and ensuring issues, actions and control themes are clearly articulated and followed through.
You’ll lead a small team, giving direction and support across risk, governance and reporting priorities.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
