Role Overview
The role of the Lead School Nurse at Highgate is to support pupils' health and wellbeing in order for pupils to fully participate in active school life. The Lead Nurse is instrumental in the coordination and implementation of the medical care across the foundation, and has the opportunity to have a significant positive impact on our pupils' experience of school. They will work as part of a close-knit, supportive team, which sits within a passionate and proactive wider staff community.
The Lead Nurse will work with both staff and the pupils themselves to ensure that the pupils health needs are looked after, be it through the provision of care or dissemination of self-management strategies.
The Medical team is well established and the Lead School Nurse would be coming in to a well-run, confident team.
The Department
The Health and Wellbeing department is made up of qualified nurses, pupil wellbeing practitioners, counsellors, the Head of Pupil Health and Wellbeing and a Clinical Mental Health Lead. The medical facilities are well equipped in order to facilitate the immediate care, both medical and pastoral, of pupils and staff at Highgate School. There are three main sites where medical care is available - the Senior School Medical Centre on North Road, the Bishopswood Road Medical Centre and the Junior School Welfare Room which is staffed by a first aider. Two qualified nurses share the responsibility for the day-to-day medical provision across the whole school and may be required to cover either site.
'Working as part of the Health and Wellbeing team feels very collaborative, and it's satisfying to see our pupils thrive thanks, in part, to our care of them.'

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
