About the job.

As part of the development of our Digital Services function, we are recruiting to strengthen internal digital capability within Cyber Security, Digital Operational Services, and Digital Corporate and Shared Services. These roles are central to building sustainable in-house expertise that supports the management, development and delivery of digital solutions across the transport network.

As a Lead Service Delivery Manager within our Service Delivery Management team in the Service Operations Division, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the effective delivery and continual improvement of integrated services across a range of business and technical service lines. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams to ensure services meet business needs, deliver value for money and support National Highways’ strategic objectives. The role offers an opportunity to influence service strategy, drive operational excellence and lead improvements across a complex technology environment.

This is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week in the office, and can be based at any National Highways office location across the UK, with some travel to attend team meetings.

  • Lead the integrated service operations and continual improvement of services, ensuring capabilities, processes and performance align with business objectives, industry standards and National Highways’ policies and risk appetite.
  • Build and maintain strong strategic relationships with senior stakeholders, suppliers and partners, influencing decisions and facilitating effective engagement to support the delivery of services and change.
  • Lead supplier management activities, ensuring supplier performance, service quality, risk and commercial objectives are effectively managed to deliver value for money.
  • Develop and communicate strategic plans, management information and service insights to support effective decision-making, prioritisation and the delivery of organisational and service improvements.
  • Lead the management of service risks, performance, availability, capacity and quality, identifying opportunities for continual improvement and ensuring services meet current and future business needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
