Company Description
The ATML Choir CIC is a unique, inclusive choir formed to combat loneliness and support mental health through music and community. The group welcomes people from all backgrounds, regardless of color, race, ethnicity, gender, or social class, and values belonging over labels. Through medleys that blend multiple songs and styles, the choir promotes cohesion and togetherness as its musical signature. Both audience members and choir participants are invited to experience the healing power of raising their voices in solidarity. Whether someone is a professional singer or sings only in the shower, they are welcome to join this community of supportive, like-minded individuals.
Role Description
The Lead Singer will provide vocal leadership during rehearsals and performances, setting the tone and style for the choir’s medley-based arrangements. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Attending scheduled rehearsals in Manchester
- Learning and interpreting diverse musical pieces
- Leading vocal sections as needed
- Collaborating with the musical director and other choir members on harmonies and performance dynamics
- Supporting newer or less experienced singers
- Encouraging participation
- Contributing to a warm, inclusive atmosphere aligned with the choir’s mental health and community-focused mission

This role is voluntary and unpaid, suitable for singers who are looking to build experience working for a newly set up choir, and singers who may want to give back to the community through their skills and time. The role is hybrid and based in Manchester, with some preparation and coordination tasks (such as learning parts, reviewing arrangements, and communicating with the team) carried out from home.
Qualifications
- Strong vocal ability with experience performing as a lead or solo singer in choirs, bands, or similar settings.
- Ability to learn and perform a variety of musical styles, including medleys that blend multiple songs and genres.
- Basic music skills such as keeping time, following direction from a musical director, and working within harmonies and group arrangements.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to inclusivity and community-building.
- Reliability in attending rehearsals and performances in Manchester, with the ability to manage part-time hybrid working arrangements.
- Comfort supporting individuals who may be using music as a tool for mental health and connection; experience in community or wellbeing projects is an advantage.
- Previous choir or performance experience is beneficial but not essential; enthusiasm, openness to learning, and a respectful attitude are key.
