My client, a leading global hedge fund, is seeking their first engineering hire within their London office to lead the built out of their global OMS.

This is a rare opportunity to sit close to the business—Portfolio Managers, Traders, Compliance, Treasury, and Trade Operations—owning technology that powers the full trade lifecycle from origination through warehousing.

You’ll lead the design and delivery of scalable, business-critical applications that augment vendor OMS/EMS and integrate with bespoke systems for treasury, compliance, and trade ops. Expect a modern stack (SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS, Angular/React) and a fast-paced environment where your engineering decisions directly shape a multi-asset trading platform.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Architecting and building trade-flow applications & reporting tools: You’ll design and deliver resilient services that streamline order capture, routing, compliance checks, allocations, warehousing, and end-of-day processes—integrating vendor OMS/EMS with in-house platforms.
  • Enhancing and extending OMS/EMS workflows across asset classes: You’ll tailor and extend vendor functionality, close gaps with custom augmentations, and ensure seamless data and workflow integration across trading, compliance, treasury, and trade operations.
  • Partnering directly with front-office and operations stakeholders: You’ll work hand-in-glove with PMs, traders, ops, and tech leadership to define requirements, iterate quickly, and ship solutions that improve speed, control, and transparency.
  • Modernising the platform and establishing best practices: You’ll drive cloud migration (AWS, Snowflake), uplift data models and pipelines, and set engineering standards around reliability, observability, testing, and performance—guiding junior engineers along the way.
  • Owning production quality and support: You’ll provide escalation-level coverage for mission-critical OMS/EMS platforms during market hours and EOD, helping keep the trade lifecycle running smoothly globally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
