Lead Software Engineer (Tech Lead) | Payments

Bracknell (Hybrid 2-3 days in office) | Salary £80,000 - £85,000

Are you a hands-on technical leader with proven experience building production software? Have you set architecture, led design reviews, and owned a squad's technical decisions? Are you strong in C# /.NET with solid AWS experience? Do you use agentic AI coding tools daily and have a clear view on how teams should adopt them?

If yes, this could be the role for you:

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join an established international payments business. You will own how a squad builds and ships, from architecture and API design through to delivery, reliability, and the growth of the engineers on the team. Your code will move money in production.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the engineering team building and running your squad's slice of the payments platform, including services, APIs, and partner integrations
  • Set technical direction: architecture, API design, code for the hard parts, design reviews, and code review standards

  • Lead and develop engineers through pairing, mentoring, regular 1:1s, and feedback
  • Lead the squad's response to production incidents
  • Shape how the team adopts AI tooling, setting the example for daily use of agentic coding tools across the SDLC
