LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER

We are seeking an experienced LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER to take ownership of the design, development, and delivery of advanced engineering software solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities, guiding developers through the full software development lifecycle while contributing directly to software architecture and implementation.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Python development within complex engineering or scientific environments, experience working within Agile Scrum teams, and the ability to collaborate with technical stakeholders to define and deliver high-quality software products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and best engineering practices.
  • Remain actively involved in the hands-on design, development, testing, and deployment of engineering software applications.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Support Agile Scrum delivery processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to product roadmap discussions and help prioritise development activities.
  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and robust software architectures.
  • Ensure software quality through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including system designs, architecture documentation, user guides, and development standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated technical solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in software engineering methodologies, tools, and development practices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
