Lead Software Engineer
Osprey Flight Solutions · Full-time · Remote, home-based · Reports to Head of Engineering
Why this role, why now
You'd lead a cross-functional delivery team at Osprey, not just contribute to one. You're the interface between your team and the Head of Engineering Excellence, accountable for what your team ships, while staying hands-on rather than managing from a distance. Osprey's stack is full-stack.NET and React, and this is a genuinely remote role, home-based, backed by a £40 million growth investment as the company builds out engineering to match.
You'll also lead by example on agentic coding practices, coaching your team on how AI-assisted development actually gets used well, not just adopted for its own sake.
What you'll be doing
- Lead delivery of new capabilities and maintenance work, as an individual contributor or by leading other engineers, whichever the moment calls for.
- Coach and promote agentic coding practices across your team, leading by example rather than mandating from above.
- Own your team's delivery: track progress against plan, surface impediments early, and solve what you can before escalating.
- Design solutions within Osprey's reference architecture, and bring the more complex proposals to the working group for discussion.
- Run estimation and story breakdown sessions that keep delivery in small, shippable iterations.
- Delegate work in a way that balances getting things done with growing your team's skills, and mentor them day to day.
- Review your team's work against technical standards for scalability, security, and sustainability, and manage releases in close collaboration with the release management group.
- Support product discovery with the Platform Team, and horizon-scan emerging technology that could genuinely move Osprey's products forward.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
