Lead Software Engineer | Python | £90k-£100k + 10-30% Bonus | London

£90,000-£100,000 base + 10-30% performance bonus Bonus paid every 4 months London | 3 days per week in the office Python | Django | Flask | APIs | Data Pipelines

I'm working with a growing financial technology business that's built its own proprietary platform, to help investors, originators and asset owners manage complex private credit and asset-backed finance portfolios.

They're now looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join the team and play a key role in the continued evolution of the platform.

And the package is a genuine differentiator: £90k-£100k base + a performance bonus that typically averages between 10-30%, paid every four months.

The Opportunity

This company has recently won a number of new clients, with a significant increase in projects coming onto the their platform. That means you're joining at a point where platform scale, engineering capacity and technical direction are becoming increasingly important. The role remains hands-on. You'll be writing software and working across the core platform, while also acting as a technical reference point for the wider engineering team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing and building core backend services, APIs, data pipelines and calculation engines
  • Contributing to the architecture and technical direction of their platform
  • Improving the scalability, reliability and maintainability of the platform
  • Working closely with Product, Engineering and domain specialists to turn complex requirements into robust software
  • Helping establish engineering best practices around testing, code quality, observability and delivery
  • Mentoring other engineers and helping raise the technical bar across the team
  • Taking increasing ownership of key components and areas of the platform

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Technical Environment

Python is at the heart of the platform, with Django, Flask, APIs, data-processing workflows and relational databases forming much of the day-to-day environment. They're particularly interested in engineers who can sit comfortably between backend software engineering and data-heavy systems. Experience with Airflow, orchestration, ETL or data processing would be valuable, but they're not looking for a pure Data Engineer. The sweet spot is someone who considers themselves a strong software engineer first, with the ability to work comfortably with complex data and financial workflows.

What They're Looking For

  • Strong commercial software engineering experience, ideally with Python
  • A strong backend engineering background
  • Experience building and owning APIs, services or data-heavy applications
  • Good architectural and technical decision-making
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to other engineers
  • Comfortable working in a growing environment where requirements aren't always fully defined
  • Someone who wants to remain hands-on while having greater influence over technical direction

Why Join?

£90k-£100k base + 10-30% performance bonus, paid every four months. Alongside the compensation, you'll be joining a relatively small engineering function where your technical decisions can genuinely influence the direction of the platform. It's a good opportunity for someone who wants to stay hands-on technically, while taking on more responsibility for architecture, engineering standards and the development of other engineers.

If you're a senior/lead Python engineer looking for a role where you can stay hands-on, influence architecture and have meaningful ownership over a growing platform, I'd be keen to speak.
