Lead Software Engineer / Lead C#.NET Engineer
£75,000 to £90,000
Working pattern: Hybrid. x2 days in Office
Location: London
Benefits: Pension up to 17%, Bonus, 34 days holiday + a heap of flexible benefits.
A global business is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to be the senior technical lead its product teams build around, in C# and.NET throughout.
This is a lead engineering role that stays close to the code. You would be the person product teams turn to when the build gets hard, shaping the architecture and building the difficult parts with them rather than handing over a diagram and stepping away.
The work moves across teams rather than sitting inside one. You would meet codebases at every stage of life: some you point in the right direction and hand back, some you stay with and build the hard part yourself. It is.NET end to end, behind the products their clients use and the platforms the firm runs on. AI is changing how the teams ship, and you would have a strong hand in shaping how they use it.
What you would own
- The architecture on the work that counts, shaped alongside the team, then the toughest slice of the build once the shape is set
- The shared C# libraries and services the other teams depend on, and the call on what is worth making shared in the first place
- Cutting duplication across the estate, finding the same problem solved five different ways and turning it into one thing teams can build on
- How the teams work with AI day to day: the tooling, the workflow around it, and the limits that keep quality and security intact
- The technical bar around you, set through code review, mentoring and the example your own work sets
- The line between your code and a healthy production system, held with the firm's Platform and Infrastructure teams so what ships stays secure and easy to run

What they are looking for
- Strong C# and.NET, with REST APIs in ASP.NET Core.
- A track record of setting technical direction others followed, whether your title said lead, principal or the senior everyone leaned on.
- Azure across App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, Blob, Table and Queue storage, Azure Batch and Application Insights.
- Both sides of the data layer, Azure SQL and document stores such as Cosmos DB, with a view on when to reach for which.
- CI/CD, test automation and observability as part of how you work, and technical debt you take on knowingly rather than trip over later.
- Architecture you can stand behind, reached by weighing the trade-offs rather than defaulting to the biggest pattern, and the restraint to keep it simple when simple will hold.

Nice to have
- Building generative AI and LLM features with Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex
- Hands-on time with agentic coding tools
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform
