Lead Software Engineer
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join a leading organisation within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Cheshire or Edinburgh.
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to provide deep technical expertise and leadership across the design, development, testing, and implementation of business-critical applications. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving technical delivery, mentoring developers, ensuring quality standards are met, and collaborating with stakeholders across multiple teams.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, efficient code in line with development standards, guidelines, and quality gates.
- Lead the delivery of complex technical solutions and conduct impact assessments on changes to existing applications.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to software developers and contribute to knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
- Ensure robust testing practices are followed and support the safe implementation of solutions into production environments.
- Manage dependencies across teams, review the work of others, and contribute to objective setting and team leadership activities.

About You
- Extensive experience as a Software Engineer with strong technical expertise in one or more programming languages.
- Demonstrated experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers.
- Strong understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Proven ability to manage personal workload while coordinating and allocating work across development teams.
- Experience designing and implementing complex technical solutions in enterprise environments.
