Lead Software Engineer (Computational Aeroelasticity)

Location: Nottingham or London, United Kingdom

Reports to: Software Engineering Manager

Job Overview

Join Cadence to develop advanced aeroelastic analysis capabilities for our commercial engineering software. This role brings together aeroelasticity, structural dynamics and scientific software development. You will translate engineering methods into robust, practical simulation tools.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate methods for aeroelastic analysis, including flutter, gust response, and aerodynamic-structural coupling.
  • Implement numerical methods in production-quality scientific software.
  • Apply finite element models, modal methods, and structural dynamics formulations to aeroelastic problems.
  • Develop automated tests and take part in software verification and validation.
  • Collaborate with aerospace engineers and software development teams.

Job Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • MSc, Ph.D., or equivalent experience in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Computational Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in aeroelasticity and structural dynamics.
  • Experience developing scientific or engineering software using C++, Fortran, Python, or a similar programming language.

Additional Skills/Preferences

Experience in one or more of the following is beneficial but not required:

  • Flutter, gust response, aeroservoelasticity, or dynamic aeroelasticity.
  • Panel methods, Doublet Lattice Method (DLM), Vortex Lattice Method (VLM), or generalized aerodynamic forces.
  • Finite element methods, modal analysis, vibration, or dynamic response.
  • Reduced-order modeling, nonlinear aeroelasticity, or aerothermoelasticity.
  • Aerospace simulation tools such as MSC Nastran, ZAERO, Abaqus, or equivalent.

Additional Information

  • Team: you will collaborate with aerospace engineers and software development teams.
