Lead Software Engineer – Payments Technology

About the Role
As a Lead Software Engineer in the Payments team, you will spearhead technical solutions for a fully cloud-based payments application. Your work will span the entire development lifecycle—from translating business requirements into cutting-edge code to deploying and supporting high-stakes production systems. thumbnail shape this rapidly evolving business with robust technology that ensures scalability, security, and seamless user experiences.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement creative software solutions, from conceptualisation to production readiness
- Develop, code review, and debug secure, high-performance applications, ensuring stellar quality standards
- Leverage AI to enhance code analysis, automate testing, and optimise the development lifecycle
- Proactively identify inefficiencies in production, proposing solutions for automation or recurring issue elimination
- Lead technical design reviews with cross-functional teams, assessing scalability, performance, and alignment with business objectives
- Foster communities of practice (CoPs) across Software Engineering, promoting emerging technologies and cross-functional collaboration
- Contribute to a diverse, inclusive culture that values growth, opportunity, and respect

Requirements
Required Qualifications, Skills & Capabilities
- Demonstrated hands-on coding experience with a verifiable track record of successful software delivery
- Deep knowledge of system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced proficiency in at least one programming language, ideally Java
- Expertise in automation and continuous delivery (CD) methodologies
- Full-cycle mastery of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including planning, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Strong grounding in agile methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines, application resiliency, and cybersecurity best practices
- Practical experience in financial services IT systems and the challenges of regulated environments
- Cloud-native expertise, demonstrating familiarity with scalable architectures, Kubernetes, and DevOps principles
Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Capabilities
- Proven hands-on experience with AI—including coding, understanding algorithmic principles, and applications in software workflows
- Self-driven mindset with the ability to take ownership of end-to-end delivery and mentor peers
