Lead Software Engineer - PHP/Laravel - Remote - £100k+ Equity
We are seeking an exceptional Engineering Lead to take ownership of the technical direction and delivery for our financial services platform. This fully remote permanent opportunity offers the chance to shape the architecture and APIs of a market-leading multi-currency financial management system used by captains, crew, owners, management companies and family offices across the yachting and multi-asset sectors.
About the Role
As the Lead Back-end Engineer for our financial services team you will set the strategic technical vision while remaining hands-on enough to ensure every line of code meets the highest standards of performance, security and maintainability. You will guide a distributed team of back-end engineers, mentoring them through complex challenges and fostering an environment where technical excellence and continuous improvement are the daily norm. Your work will sit at the heart of a platform that handles instant global transactions, real-time reporting, treasury operations and multi-asset visibility for some of the most demanding clients in the world.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of system architecture and product APIs
- Define and uphold rigorous engineering practices
- Write clean, reusable and thoroughly tested code
- Collaborate across product, design and other engineering teams to break ambitious roadmaps into clear, deliverable increments
- Evaluate emerging tools and technologies, integrating those that genuinely raise the quality and efficiency of our stack, which centres on PHP Laravel, Docker and AWS, supported by the Atlassian suite
Requirements
- Eight to ten years of engineering leadership experience, including proven success leading fully remote teams
- Deep technical authority combined with the soft skills needed to communicate complex ideas clearly, coach others effectively and align engineering effort with broader product and business goals
- Thrive on ownership and take pride in code that is both elegant and robust
- Understand that true leadership means elevating the entire team while still contributing high-impact work yourself

Reporting Structure
