Purpose of the role
We are looking for a hands-on Lead Software Engineer to help shape and build our platform. You will work closely with business stakeholders to turn ideas into well-designed, reliable software, taking features from technical design through to delivery and iteration.
This is a technical leadership role in a small, growing team. You will spend most of your time designing and writing code, setting good engineering practices and helping others do their best work. It is not initially a people-management position, but as the team grows you will play an important part in mentoring and developing a team of engineers.
Your work will directly affect operations for our clients across tenancy management, resident engagement, maintenance scheduling, finance workflows and more. The platform already runs every LUMYA Living building in the UK and Europe, and we are now taking it to other operators. Each operator’s data has to stay separate, secure and available, so reliability and security are part of the job from day one.
Key responsibilities
Front-end engineering and product delivery
- Design, build and improve applications using React and TypeScript.
- Develop accessible, maintainable front-end experiences using HTML and CSS.
- Improve front-end performance, reliability and the user experience.
- Work across the software development lifecycle, from shaping requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, release and iteration.
- Give realistic estimates to the Product Owner and Director of Product & Technology, and flag delivery risks early.
Architecture and technical direction
- Make practical technical decisions that support the platform’s long-term direction and growth.
- Collaborate with colleagues working across backend services and architecture, including Node.js, SQL and ASP.NET Core.
- Integrate with APIs and contribute to end-to-end solution design using REST and GraphQL.
- Record significant technical decisions in writing so the reasoning is available to the rest of the team.
- Build and maintain a shared component library so the platform looks and behaves consistently across modules.
- Design integrations with payment, CRM and accounting platforms so they can be reused from one client to the next.

Quality, reliability and security
- Review code, encourage good engineering practices and maintain a high standard of quality.
- Build automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline so releases are routine and low risk.
- Help keep the platform available to the agreed service level and lead the technical response to front-end and application incidents.
- Write up incidents afterwards, without blame, and follow through on the fixes.
- Apply secure coding practice to all work, with particular care around authentication, payments and personal data.
- Keep each client’s data separate and test that separation as part of every release.
- Provide technical evidence for the company’s data protection and information security work, including GDPR and ISO 27001.
Client implementation and support
- Support the technical side of new client implementations, including configuration, integrations and data migration.
- Act as the technical escalation point for issues the help desk cannot resolve.
- Spend time with LUMYA Living site teams to see how the platform is used day to day and bring what you learn back into the product.
Engineering practice and team development
- Share knowledge, provide technical guidance and mentor other developers.
- Keep documentation for each core module current, so no part of the platform depends on one person.
- Take part in hiring engineers, including technical interviews and onboarding new starters.
- Help NVS grow its engineering capability and, over time, help build and develop a larger team.
Person specification
Experience and knowledge, essential
- Strong commercial experience building production applications in React and TypeScript.
- Working experience of.NET Core, Node.js, SQL Server and API design using REST and GraphQL.
- Experience leading technical design and reviewing other engineers’ code.
- Experience of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Experience mentoring or guiding other developers.

Experience and knowledge, desirable
- Exposure to PBSA, property management or booking systems.
- Experience with Next.js, TailwindCSS or component design systems.
- Knowledge of Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with payment integrations, CRM platforms or accounting platforms.
- Experience of multi-tenant SaaS, or of working in an ISO 27001 or similar certified environment.
Personal characteristics
- Cares deeply about clean code, reusability and practical UX.
- Can think strategically but moves fast like a startup engineer.
- Explains technical choices clearly to people who are not engineers.
- Comfortable with the ownership that comes with a small team.
What success looks like
In your first months, you will build a strong understanding of the platform and the business, contribute directly to product delivery and help establish a clear technical direction. Over time, you will help the engineering team grow while continuing to guide the architecture and quality of the software.
