Lead Software Test Engineer
📍 Warwickshire (Hybrid - 2 Days Per Week in the Office)
💷 £55,000 - £65,000 + Excellent Benefits
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Lead Software Test Engineer to join an innovative technology business developing cutting-edge hardware and software products. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of software testing activities across mobile applications, embedded software, web applications, cloud services, and APIs.
As a senior member of the engineering team, you'll lead testing initiatives, define testing standards and processes, mentor colleagues, and work closely with software developers, hardware engineers, and product stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of product quality.
The role offers a unique blend of hands-on testing, technical leadership, and process improvement within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own software testing activities across mobile applications, web applications, embedded systems, and REST APIs
- Define testing strategy, standards, and best practices across the engineering function
- Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and regression test suites
- Work closely with development teams and stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly defined and testable
- Perform manual testing including functional, regression, usability, performance, and stress testing
- Support automated testing initiatives, including API and unit testing
- Contribute to continuous integration and build validation activities
- Test and validate embedded software running on hardware products
- Document test outcomes and collaborate with developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Identify opportunities to improve software quality, testing efficiency, and release confidence
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the testing team

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Software Test Engineer, Senior Test Engineer, or Lead Test Engineer role
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and quality assurance processes
- Experience creating and executing test plans, test cases, and regression test suites
- Experience testing mobile applications, web applications, and REST APIs
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
- Experience implementing test tools, frameworks, and testing processes
- Familiarity with containerised environments such as Docker
- Experience using test case management tools such as TestRail or similar
- Strong understanding of defect management and bug tracking processes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and lead testing initiatives
- ISTQB certification (or equivalent)
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Previous experience mentoring or leading a small team

- Automated testing experience (Appium or similar tools)
- Unit testing experience
- Testing both iOS and Android applications
- Embedded software testing
- Experience producing technical documentation
- Exposure to cloud-based applications and backend services

Desired Skills and Experience

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (DOE) + benefits
Employment Type: Permanent
