Lead Surveyor Kier Sizewell C
Overview of the Role
The Lead Surveyor will report to the Chief Engineer within the Technical Delivery Team to manage all aspects of engineering surveying (survey networks and setting out procedure/compliance) on the project.
Introduction to the Project/Department
Kier are supporting the delivery of Sizewell C, a major 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station under construction on the Suffolk coast in England, via a framework for Civils Infrastructure. The Technical Delivery Team, led by the Chief Engineer, manage all technical aspects including Engineering Management, Temporary Works, Quality Control and Assurance, BIM and Information Management, Technical Configuration, and Design Management.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities
Surveying & Setting Out
- Undertake setting out for a range of civil engineering works including earthworks, drainage, highways, and structures.
- Establish and maintain survey control points, grids, and benchmarks.
- Operate and monitor procedures to ensure all works on site are set out in accordance with approved drawings and tolerances by the site engineering team.

Systems Management
- Maintain Survey management plans and processes
Team Management
- Line management to survey team as appointed including junior surveyors
Data Collection & Processing
- Carry out topographical, as-built, and monitoring surveys.
- Process survey data using industry software (e.g., AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center).
- Produce accurate drawings, models, and survey reports.
Quality Control
- Check line, level, and dimensions of works on site.
- Identify and report discrepancies between design and site conditions.
- Support quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with specifications.
Equipment Management
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments (GNSS, total stations, digital levels, laser scanners).
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with engineers, site managers, and subcontractors to support project delivery.
- Provide technical guidance on setting out and survey-related issues.
Health & Safety
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Carry out surveys in a safe manner and contribute to risk assessments and method statements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate field records, survey logs, and site documentation.
- Prepare and issue as-built records and handover data as required.

Essential Requirements
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related discipline
- Proven experience in a similar role within civil engineering projects
- Proficient in surveying and CAD software
- Experience with modern survey equipment (e.g., GPS/GNSS, automatic total stations)
