About The Role
Dyson is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Technical Designer to play a pivotal role within the Global Retail Design & Experience team. This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and manufacturing, ensuring that innovative retail concepts are translated into technically robust, commercially viable, and scalable solutions.
Working in close partnership with retail designers from the earliest stages of concept creation, the Technical Designer provides technical guidance that helps shape design direction without constraining creativity. The role is critical in enabling rapid exploration of new ideas, materials, and approaches while maintaining feasibility and performance.
Beyond concept phases, the role is responsible for the development of new fixtures and physical retail elements. This includes producing detailed technical drawings, specifications, and supplier briefs, as well as reviewing supplier outputs to ensure design intent is maintained, solutions are right-sized, and cost and engineering complexity are appropriately controlled.
Working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and external partners, the Technical Designer helps ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across Dyson’s global retail environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
