Lead Technician

Location: Etches Park Depot, Deadmans Road, Derby
Contract: 6+ Month Initial Contract (With a view to extend)

Pay:

  • Standard Hours:
    • PAYE: £26.92 /hour
    • Umbrella: £35.98 /hour
  • Opportunity for overtime for hours beyond 40 per week, Paid at 1.25%

Hours / Shifts:

  • Combination of Days and nights. Standard shift Rate covers both days and nights. 4 off 4 on. 2 blocks of days 2 nights. 07:30 start time.
  • 11 Hours /day (inc 1 hour unpaid break)
  • Average 40 Standard Hours / Week + Overtime

This role falls inside IR35 – payment via PAYE or Umbrella Company

Function of Role

To service, complex fault find and repair Hitachi rolling stock assets

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace
  • Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques
  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications
  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components
  • Modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools
  • Assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Identify repeat defects on Hitachi rolling stock assets and suggest / carry out repairs
  • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff
  • Support reliability technicians with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets
  • Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty
  • Provide operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Keep SAP record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post
  • Other responsibilities relevant to the role based on localised requirements

The Ideal Candidate Has / Can:

  • Experience of working a 24/7 shift roster in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
  • Outstanding Safety Awareness gained in an operational railway engineering environment.
  • Experience of working at stabling outstations or main line station technical support.
  • Modern fault finding and repair techniques using pc-based laptops and remote train diagnostics.
  • Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and available trend analysis.
  • Experience of performing modifications and campaigns on modern rolling stock.
  • Behavioural:
    • Can comfortably work within a team or on their own
    • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations (internal and external)
    • Able to always represent Hitachi in a professional manner
    • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
    • Ability to investigate complex electrical and mechanical faults and write detailed reports.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
    • Loyal, committed, confident and determined.

Desirable Licences / Competences

  • Time Served Rolling Stock Experience with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
  • HNC Engineering (Desirable)
  • Manual Handling
  • COSHH
  • Working at height
  • Powered plant, and tools.
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings reading
  • Powered plant and tools – bogie drop, cranes, air systems / 110v tools.
  • Depot Protection
  • AC/DC Depot isolation

Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum NVQ level 3 in Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Live within commuting distance (1 hour) of Etches Park Depot
  • Right to work in the UK and able to provide proof of qualifications
