Lead Test Engineer (Azure | Databricks)

We're working with a UK Public Sector client looking for an experienced Lead Test Engineer to take ownership of the testing strategy across an Azure Databricks platform.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll define and implement a robust test framework, embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, champion test-driven development, and drive quality standards across a modern data engineering programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the test strategy for an Azure Databricks platform
- Design and implement a scalable, reusable test framework
- Build and optimise automated testing within Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
- Introduce and embed Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices
- Implement data quality checks and validation across data pipelines
- Mentor and support test engineers while raising quality standards across the platform
- Collaborate with data engineers, architects and platform teams to embed testing throughout the development lifecycle

Key Experience
- Proven experience defining and delivering test strategies for data platforms
- Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and pytest-based test frameworks
- Strong experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
- Experience implementing Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Strong understanding of data pipeline testing, schema validation and data quality
- Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering or test teams

Desirable
- Experience with Soda Data Quality or DQX
- Previous experience working within the UK Public Sector
- Eligible for, or currently holding, SC Clearance
