Role: Test Lead Engineer

Location: London, UK

Type: Contract

Job Description

  • Leadership and Guidance:
    Lead, mentor, and guide distributed QA teams to ensure high-quality, predictable delivery.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Serve as a primary QA point of contact for project stakeholders.

  • Collaboration:
    Collaborate with Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve blockers, and establish clear acceptance criteria.

  • Agile/Scrum Practices:
    Promote Agile/Scrum practices and contribute to requirement reviews through a shift-left testing approach.

  • Test Strategy and Execution:
    Define and maintain test strategies, plans, estimates, and execution approaches.
    Track and communicate test progress, defect trends, risks, dependencies, and overall release quality.

  • Documentation and Metrics:
    Maintain accurate and comprehensive QA documentation and metrics.

  • Requirement Analysis:
    Analyze complex functional and business requirements within core banking environments.

  • End-to-End Testing:
    Design and execute end-to-end testing for banking workflows, including customer accounts, deposits, lending, payments, trade-related processes, and other financial services.

  • Validation:
    Validate business rules, transaction processing, accounting impacts, and integration points.

  • System Integration:
    Verify upstream and downstream system integrations across complex banking ecosystems.

  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT):
    Support UAT by coordinating test activities, investigating issues, and working closely with business users.

  • Production Support:
    Provide QA support during production releases, deployment validation, and post-release verification.

Test Execution & Automation

  • Test Scenarios and Cases:
    Design, develop, review, and maintain comprehensive test scenarios, test cases, and test data.

  • Testing Types:
    Lead functional, regression, integration, system, smoke, sanity, and end-to-end testing.

  • Automation:
    Develop and execute automation solutions across Web, API, and Mobile platforms.

  • Continuous Improvement:
    Contribute to the continuous improvement of automation frameworks, test coverage, and execution efficiency.

  • Defect Management:
    Identify opportunities to reduce manual testing effort through effective automation.
    Manage the complete defect lifecycle, including defect identification, logging, triage, retesting, and regression validation.

  • Defect Triage:
    Participate in defect triage meetings and work with development teams to drive timely resolution.

Requirements

  • Experience:
    Proven hands-on experience testing core banking applications and financial workflows.

  • Knowledge:
    Strong understanding of banking processes, transaction lifecycles, accounting impacts, and end-of-day processing.

  • Software Quality Assurance:
    Significant experience in Software Quality Assurance, including experience in a Test Lead or Senior QA role.

  • Methodologies:
    Strong knowledge of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Automation:
    Practical experience developing and executing automation frameworks for Web, REST/SOAP APIs, and Mobile applications.

  • Agile/Scrum:
    Strong understanding and practical experience of Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.

Technical Skills

  • Test Management:
    Experience with defect and test management platforms such as Jira, Azure DevOps, ALM, or equivalent tools.

  • SQL and Database Testing:
    Strong SQL and database-testing skills, including writing queries to validate backend data and transaction states.

  • Testing Methodologies:
    Good understanding of functional and non-functional testing methodologies.

  • Integration Testing:
    Experience with integration testing across enterprise applications and external/internal interfaces.

  • CI/CD:
    Familiarity with CI/CD and modern QA practices is desirable.

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Analytical Skills:
    Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities with a strong quality-focused mindset.

  • Risk Management:
    Ability to identify edge cases, challenge assumptions, and proactively uncover potential system risks.

  • Communication:
    Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Team Coordination:
    Proven ability to coordinate distributed teams and manage multiple priorities.

  • Attention to Detail:
    Strong ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.

  • Fast-Paced Environment:
    Ability to work effectively in fast-paced delivery environments and meet critical deadlines.
