Lead Test Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Test Engineer to join our dynamic team in Yeovil. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the testing team, ensuring the quality of our products through comprehensive testing strategies and methodologies. This role requires strong technical abilities, leadership skills, and a passion for quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputising for Engineer Manager in absence
  • Promoting safe behaviour at all times as a role model: Adherence and Audits of personnel protective equipment and HS&E practices on site.
  • Participate as required in MOR and Staff meetings.
  • Contribution to meet our goals and objectives.
  • Follow up on issues, to avoid downtimes and promote best practices for resources optimization.
  • Responsible for foreseeing operational roadblocks and supporting resolution or escalating to Engineering manager.
  • Support Manager in learning plans and coaching for the team to build skills and flexibility across the department.
  • Support manager in the generation and development of proposals and technical and estimates.
  • Work with Manager to review planned resource demand and prepare scenarios for review with Manager.
  • Co-ordinate production of consistent technical document template formats
  • Work with Manager to recommend optimized use of resources based on planned projects.
  • Develop, implement and support the 5-year test STRAP objectives.
  • Lead and manage the testing team, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain test strategies and processes to ensure product quality.
  • Design and execute test cases, including functional, regression, performance, and automated testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, product management, and operations, to understand product requirements and ensure alignment on testing objectives.
  • Identify, report, and track defects using appropriate tools; work closely with the development team to prioritise and resolve issues.
  • Analyse testing results, prepare reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in testing methodologies and tools.

  • Minimum HND/Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace or related subject area
  • Proven and extensive experience working with LSS systems
  • Proven experience as a Test Engineer, with at least 5 years in a lead or senior role.
  • Good problem-solving abilities, and example of doing so
  • A logical approach to resolving test issues
  • Knowledge of pneumatics systems within air-based systems
  • Previous experience in a similar environment would be advantageous
  • Highly resourceful and results-oriented with a strong bias for action and keen sense of urgency
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills to drive results in a highly matrixed organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective coaching, mentoring, and influencing skills
  • High energy level with can-do attitude
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with employees at all levels
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
