Role Description
The Lead Topographical Surveyor is a full-time, on-site role based in the United Kingdom, responsible for planning, leading, and delivering topographical surveys on rail and associated infrastructure projects. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Organizing survey works
- Supervising survey teams
- Conducting field measurements using total stations, GNSS, and other relevant equipment
- Ensuring data is captured accurately and safely in line with industry standards and client specifications

The role involves:
- Processing and validating survey data
- Producing clear drawings and models
- Coordinating closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure survey outputs meet project requirements and deadlines
The Lead Topographical Surveyor will also:
- Contribute to methodology development
- Conduct risk assessments
- Continuously improve survey practices
- Mentor less experienced colleagues
- Promote a strong safety culture on site
Qualifications
- Strong experience in topographical surveying, including field data collection, setting out, and use of instruments such as total stations, GNSS, and laser scanners.
- Proficiency in survey data processing and drafting using relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS tools, and survey processing applications).
- Solid understanding of rail infrastructure, construction workflows, and applicable standards and regulations within the UK rail environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead survey teams, plan workloads, coordinate site activities, and deliver accurate outputs to tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret and communicate technical information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Relevant professional qualification in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related discipline; membership of a professional body (e.g., RICS, ICES) is advantageous.
- Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements, with experience preparing or working to risk assessments and method statements.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel and work on rail sites, including occasional night or weekend shifts as required by project demands.
