Lead Wayfinder – Unique Minds
Help us launch a new free dementia support service in Solihull, Shirley, Bromsgrove and Redditch.
About Unique Minds
Unique Minds is a new charity, part of the LAMEHLAK Charitable Foundation (Charity No. 1206326), set up to provide free, holistic, non-clinical dementia support across Solihull, Shirley, Bromsgrove and Redditch. Modelled on the respected Sage House approach, our Wayfinder service will support people living with dementia and their families to navigate the health and social care, legal and financial elements of a diagnosis, from pre-diagnosis through to end of life.
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to join a new dementia charity at its earliest stage, ahead of the launch of our first support centre. Working closely with the Centre Director, the Lead Wayfinder will help design and set up the Wayfinder service and our wider programme of activities and support groups, operating initially from a temporary office before leading its move into the new centre.
Beyond frontline Wayfinder support, the successful candidate will provide an advisory service to families and referrers during the pre-launch period and will train and mentor further Wayfinders as our team grows. This role would suit someone with a background in the NHS or social care and experience of dementia care, who wants to help shape a service from the ground up.

Hours are 30 to 37.5 per week (full-time preferred during the initial set-up period), with a flexible working pattern to be agreed. The post is permanent, subject to funding. The role is based initially at a temporary office, relocating to the new Unique Minds centre on opening, with occasional community outreach across the area.
Main Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Centre Director to design and set up the Wayfinder service and wider programme of activities and support groups
- Provide a Wayfinder advisory service to families and referrers ahead of the centre opening
- Carry out initial assessments and manage a caseload as early referrals come in
- Complete Unique Minds' 30-day Wayfinder induction, then help the Centre Director to design and deliver induction and training for further Wayfinders as they are recruited
- Act as a first point of reference and mentor for new Wayfinders
- Represent Unique Minds at partnership, referrer and outreach meetings during the pre-launch period
- Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and maintain accurate customer records
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A background in the NHS or social care, with direct experience of dementia care
- Experience helping to set up, launch or grow a new service, project or team
- Experience training, mentoring or inducting other staff or volunteers
- Strong listening skills, empathy and emotional resilience
- Excellent communication skills and confidence using case management systems
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable:
- A relevant qualification in health, social care, counselling or a related field
- Lived experience of dementia, personally or through supporting a family member
- Experience of managing, supervising or coordinating the work of others
