About the Role
We want you to be a leading voice of The Wall Street Journal’s markets coverage, launching our wildly popular Live Markets offering each day from our international hub in London. This reporting role spans the written word, charts, videos, podcasts and beyond. Live Markets is the beating heart of our daily news offering—often the lead article on our platforms that reach nearly 5 million subscribers.
You will bring authority and personality to the role, setting the agenda for market experts and arm chair investors alike. The Journal’s audience includes hedge fund titans, central bankers and average folks who want to unravel the daily mysteries in the world of money. You will dive in with insightful observations, commentary and analysis to unpick whatever is moving in markets, be it soaring AI stocks, plunging crypto currencies or gyrating bond yields. Moving quickly and thinking like an investor is key.
If you aren’t already, we want to turn you into a bold faced name in the world of financial journalism, someone the world turns to for answers. You will work closely with the Journal’s award-winning stable of markets experts, including our Live Markets editor in London and our Live Markets team in New York. You want to experiment with how we deliver our news will appear frequently on Journal podcasts and short-form videos.
You Will
- Be the lead writer of Live Markets before and during the U.S. market open, setting the agenda of readers each day.
- Cover the defining market events, economic reports, and corporate moves driving global finance, bringing flair and insight.
- Appear on podcasts and short-form videos featured on WSJ platforms and beyond.
- Work hand-in-glove with our Live Markets lead writer in New York to ensure a seamless handover in coverage.
- Identify opportunities to tell original market stories readers can’t find anywhere else, using data, graphics, and sharp narrative hooks.
- Help shape the voice, tone, and strategic direction of Live Markets and daily markets coverage for a global audience.

You Have
- At least five years of financial journalism experience, with a track record of covering markets, the economy and companies under deadline pressure.
- The skills and instincts to jump on breaking news, writing quickly, cleanly, and with an engaging, witty, yet professional voice.
- Flexibility to pivot seamlessly between asset classes and economic themes based on whatever is in the zeitgeist.
- Comfort navigating complex financial data and using numbers to undergird fast-turn stories.
- A keen sense of the Journal’s audience and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across formats and time zones.
