Job Description

Are you an experienced Diesel Mechanic or Plant Mechanic ready to take the next step in your career? Do you enjoy mentoring technicians, solving complex technical issues and leading from the front while remaining hands-on?

At Construction Equipment Australia (CEA), we're looking for a skilled Leading Hand to join our growing Service team in Wingfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a respected tradesperson who wants to combine technical expertise with leadership responsibilities in a role that offers variety, challenge and long-term career development.

Working across both the workshop and field service environments, you'll play a key role in supporting technicians, coordinating workflow and ensuring our customers receive the high standard of service CEA is known for.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Leading Hand, you'll be the go-to technical expert within the team, providing guidance and support while remaining actively involved in servicing and repairs.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading by example through safe, high-quality workmanship
  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing construction and earthmoving equipment
  • Diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
  • Supporting and mentoring technicians to develop their skills and capabilities
  • Coordinating workshop workflow and allocating jobs efficiently
  • Monitoring job progress, productivity and labour utilisation
  • Liaising with customers regarding job status, repairs and completion timeframes
  • Working closely with the Parts Department to ensure timely parts availability
  • Assisting with warranty assessments and repair order accuracy
  • Maintaining workshop standards and promoting a strong safety culture
  • Driving continuous improvement across the service department

To Be Successful, You'll Bring

  • Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology or similar
  • Strong experience working on construction, earthmoving or mobile equipment
  • Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Senior Technician or Workshop Supervisor
  • Advanced troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
  • The ability to coach, mentor and support a team
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A customer-focused and solutions-driven mindset
  • Current driver's licence
  • A commitment to safety, quality and teamwork
