Role Overview
- Attract, recruit, develop, and retain early careers candidates through a variety of academic and community-related project streams.
- Provide support and guidance to participants and line managers in all matters relating to Early Careers.
- Ensure development and technical offerings are in line with and respond to critical skills shortages and are compliant with industry and chartered professional bodies, national occupational standards (NVQs), alongside Costain’s requirements and budgetary provisions.
- Project-manage the scope and engagement of the graduate technical curriculum and implement for each annual intake in collaboration with key discipline stakeholders.
- Generate data and insights to continuously improve the relevance and quality of the Early Careers portfolio in collaboration with Costain’s preferred supplier network, academic and industry boards, and subject matter experts within the business and the wider Talent and Development team.
- Manage and maintain the schedule of Apprentice Tri-Partite reviews ensuring EC Advisor is in attendance for at least 2 reviews per annum alongside line managers, ensuring progress reports and supplier quality is maintained.
- Support the Early Careers strategy of relationships with partner universities/colleges and training providers.
Responsibilities
- Creation of an ongoing pipeline of candidates being recruited into the business through a variety of schemes such as placements, apprenticeships, and graduate programs. Collaborating with the Project HR teams and with Talent Acquisition to maximize attraction for available roles within the business.
- Cultivate robust relationships with key stakeholders to assist learners in completing their qualifications, involving regular meetings with line managers, trainers, assessors, and verifiers to assess progress and provide guidance.
- Become an internal authority on available apprentice and academic offerings such as T Levels programs, contributing to the integration and promotion of upskilling roles within the business as part of the T&D strategy and be an advocate for the advancement and expansion of upskilling roles within the business.
- Develop an understanding of the skills landscape by collaborating with further education and higher education providers, sector skills councils, and other relevant entities to determine the most effective ways to support the development of the workforce.
- Support line managers in understanding apprenticeship requirements regarding on and off-the-job learning and knowledge, skills & experience expectations for apprenticeships and for apprentices and the appropriate academic and technical skills for graduates.
- Support all EC participants in their journey to chartership by promoting and supporting applications and advising through wider L&D the full chartership journey.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the development and support of apprenticeships and traineeships. Proven expertise in organizing, problem-solving, and monitoring work programs.
- Develop a preferred supplier network for apprenticeship delivery training and ensure they meet the required standards for Costain and industry bodies as appropriate. Ensuring Ofsted approval and ratings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Strong communication skills, including a background in relationship building and the direct influence of other parties. A proactive team player with robust engagement and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, coupled with a disposition to act with discretion and diplomacy.
- Early Careers experience preferably gained within the technical/engineering/construction sector.
- Clear and concise communications skills, adapting to different stakeholders.
- Proven ability in working with a variety of IT packages, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Translate complex data and costs into clear and tangible insights.
- Experience in managing multiple programs with tight deadlines and competing demands.
- Experienced in the administration, reporting, and functionality of different learning management systems.
- Continuous improvement mindset and adept at maximizing technology to generate efficiencies.
Desirable
- Experience in recruitment and development of Early Careers Participants.
- Experience of apprenticeship processes and legislation, including the management of Digital Account.
- Knowledge of working with professional institutes to assure competence, access professional development pathways, and funding routes.
- Experience of Oracle and Cornerstone.
- Experience of Graduate Development and working with external training providers.
- Experience in supporting Early Careers budgets and forecasting.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or equivalent in HR/Learning or relevant industry knowledge.
Desirable
- Understanding of the Early Careers Landscape.
- Strong Customer Focus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with conflicting timescales.
- Good team working skills.
