The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Learning and Development Manager for an established specialist care provider delivering high-quality mental health, nursing and social care services.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining responsibility for the organisation’s learning and development strategy with the practical delivery of training.
You will identify workforce development needs, create effective learning programmes, monitor mandatory training compliance and evaluate how successfully learning is being applied within services.
You will personally deliver classroom-based, workshop and practical training. You must therefore be a confident, engaging facilitator who enjoys working directly with colleagues across a range of operational and professional roles.
Working closely with operational managers, HR and senior leaders, you will ensure that training supports organisational objectives, regulatory requirements and, most importantly, the needs of the people supported by the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess organisational, service and individual learning needs and translate them into an effective learning and development strategy.
- Design and deliver engaging classroom, workshop, practical and blended learning programmes aligned with business, care and safeguarding requirements.
- Agree priorities with employees, HR, operational managers and senior leaders, and coordinate the annual training programme across multiple services.
- Manage enrolment, schedules, venues, trainers, learning resources and external providers.
- Monitor mandatory training attendance, completion and compliance, maintaining accurate records and clear management reports.
- Evaluate the quality, impact and practical application of learning, recommending improvements where required.
- Manage learning budgets and resources while identifying opportunities to improve capability, efficiency and return on investment.
- Keep up to date with regulatory developments and best practice, supporting the consistency and effectiveness of the wider training team.
- Promote a positive culture of continuous learning and professional development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
