Learning & Development Business Partner
Hybrid working
East Lothian
At Syme Drummond, we're delighted to be partnering with Had Fab Limited, a family-owned Scottish engineering and manufacturing business, to recruit a Learning & Development Business Partner into their People team.
Had Fab is going through a period of exceptional growth, playing an important part in major UK infrastructure projects supporting the future of renewable energy. The business has grown from around 100 to over 300 people in just two years, with ambitious plans to continue that journey.
But what makes Had Fab particularly special is that, despite this growth, they've worked hard to hold on to the warmth, personality and family feel that have always been part of who they are. As the business continues to grow, there's a real focus on developing its people while holding on to the close-knit, down-to-earth culture that's been such an important part of its success.
And with so many new people joining the business, there's never been a more important time to think about how colleagues are welcomed, supported, developed and empowered to succeed.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created position and Had Fab's first dedicated L&D appointment, offering the chance to take ownership of the learning and development agenda and build something that will genuinely make a difference.
Working closely with the Head of People & OD and wider People team, you'll help move L&D from a largely ad hoc approach to a more structured, consistent and scalable offering. You'll have the autonomy to bring your own ideas, challenge existing thinking and introduce practical solutions that support the business as it continues to evolve.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
