About Woodgate & Clark

Woodgate & Clark has been providing a loss adjusting service to the UK insurance market for over 40 years and is one of the UK’s leading loss adjusters, providing complete claims solutions to insurance providers operating in commercial, domestic, marine, and motor. The Company excels at the handling of specialist and non-standard claims. We are currently just under 400 team members across the UK and since 2015, Woodgate & Clark has been part of the Van Ameyde Group, Europe’s market leader in international claims management. Van Ameyde operates across more than 30 territories through 46 operating companies, with more than 1500 team members. To complement our adjusting services, we also have our own dedicated building repair network, Quadrassist, and provide specialist loss adjusting services in entertainment, events, and advertising through Spotlite Claims.

The Person

The Learning & Development Manager will be an operational, hands-on learning professional, responsible for identifying Woodgate & Clark’s learning and development needs and designing and implementing a forward-thinking training strategy. This individual will play a key role in strengthening our succession pipeline and ensuring that adjusters and other front-line employees are equipped with the technical expertise, skills and knowledge required to succeed both now and in the future.

You will be highly collaborative, working closely with Operations, HR and senior stakeholders to translate business needs into impactful learning solutions. You will actively promote awareness of the Company’s training strategy, driving engagement and adoption across the business through a blend of internal expertise and external learning resources.

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical capability, using data and insight to identify capability gaps and shape targeted development initiatives. You will be confident designing and delivering a wide range of learning interventions, with a passion for developing talent and creating meaningful career pathways.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Learning & Development Manager include (though are not limited to):

Strategic

  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders, contribute to the design and implementation of the training strategy to fuel Woodgate & Clark’s succession pipeline

Implementation

  • Assess the Company’s training and development needs at both organisational and individual level within Operations.
  • Design and support the delivery of training to external parties to boost Business Development.
  • Plan, organise and execute, in collaboration with the HR & Professional Development Coordinator the Company’s approach to Early Careers.
  • Analyse people data to identify gaps in current succession plans, recommending corresponding training and/or development solutions and drive their implementation within Operations.
  • With input from the Operations and HR, identify technical and soft skills training requirements and define a corresponding training timeline and plan for training delivery – ensuring there is an appropriate matrix in place.
  • Anticipate future training needs based on adjuster profile needs and/or industry trends.
  • Work with subject matter experts to design and create training materials, proposing different delivery methods to optimise engagement, accessibility, learning outcomes and budgets.
  • Help build PDPs for individual adjusters to close skills/knowledge gaps and put in place mechanisms to ensure successful delivery and assessment of these plans.
  • Assess the success of development plans and help employees make the most of learning opportunities.
  • Manage training budgets and forecast current and future costs. Advise on the right course of action. The training budget will be passed down from the Central HR Budget and discussed between the Managing Director, HR Director and Operational Leads.
  • Curate learning content and assess relevant learning and development options.
  • Consider relevance of blended learning options such as coaching, mentoring, on-the job training, classroom training, e-learning, and simulation. Make recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Co-ordinate the logistics, attendance and content of training.
  • Identify external training partners.
  • Evaluate success of learning interventions and report to the HR Director.
  • Keep up to date with the latest learning and development products and approaches.
  • Support business transition projects where appropriate.
  • You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required and notified to you by the Company.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Technical and Operational experience within loss adjusting operations with a passion for supporting and developing talent.
  • Loss adjusting or insurance background (ACII/ACILA qualified as a minimum).
  • Excellent customer service, organisational and planning skills.
  • Extensive experience in designing training strategy and authoring/delivering training content.
  • Relevant loss adjusting and/or insurance-related qualifications.
  • Desire to work towards relevant professional qualifications, including TTT qualifications.
  • Quality focused, providing an excellent standard of service to all stakeholders.
  • Competent use of technology.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to demonstrate an attention to detail and proactively analyse and resolve complex issues.
  • Able to co-ordinate a variety of actions concurrently.
  • Ability to work to given targets.
