The Role
The Development Officer will support the design, coordination and delivery of learning and development activity across the Club, working within a high-performance, fast-paced Premier League environment.
The role will help ensure that employees across football operations, academy, performance, medical, coaching, administration and other functions have access to high-quality learning opportunities that support individual performance, career development and the Club's strategic objectives.
Working closely with the People team and key stakeholders across the training centre, the role will also coordinate learning and development programmes, manage training logistics, maintain accurate learning records and provide a high-quality service to employees and managers.
Key Responsibilities
Development
- Coordinate the end-to-end delivery of the Club's learning and development programmes around demanding football schedules, including training, matchdays, travel and international breaks
- Support the implementation of the annual Development plan
- Work with managers to identify learning needs and appropriate development solutions
- Host the induction and orientation onboarding process supporting new starters through their probation periods
- Plan, coordinate and deliver internal and external training courses, workshops, seminars and development programmes
- Support the creation and maintenance of individual development plans
- Assist with career development, talent development and succession-planning initiatives
- Support leadership and management development programmes
- Coordinate professional qualifications, mandatory training and continuing professional development
- Monitor participation, completion and evaluation of learning activities
- Gather feedback and use learning data to identify opportunities for improvement
- Compliance training management including safeguarding and Health and Safety with an understanding of policy and legislation
- Support employees in identifying appropriate development opportunities
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development
- Signpost employees towards relevant internal and external development resources
- Support mentoring, coaching and career-development initiatives
- Assisting onboarding new hires with established Company-wide Induction and logistics coordination. Induction 2 days (twice monthly), Day 1: Lillywhite House and Day 2: Training Centre – rotation across Development Officers (x3)
- Contribute to employee engagement and people-development initiatives
- Understanding the needs of each stakeholder and finding supporting L&D solutions to match within budget

Reporting and Data Analysis and Collection
- Supporting all necessary L&D processes working with other members of the team to ensure all data is tracked, monitored and completed
- Deliver line manager training program
- Manage the Apprenticeship Levy at the Club ensuring it is utilised inline with Club priorities
- Partner with HR to execute effective and impactful performance review cycle
Learning Systems & Administration
- Maintain accurate employee learning and development records
- Administer the Club's Learning Management System (LMS) and associated learning platforms
- Coordinate course bookings, attendance, room requirements, training materials and external suppliers
- Monitor mandatory and compliance-related training completion
- Produce regular reports and management information relating to learning activity
- Maintain training calendars and communicate learning opportunities effectively
- Process invoices and maintain appropriate records relating to L&D expenditure
- Ensure all learning documentation is managed in accordance with Club policies and data protection requirements
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people
- Act in accordance with the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
- Be alert to signs of abuse, neglect, or safeguarding concerns and report these appropriately
- Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model when working with or around children
- Attend safeguarding training as required and keep knowledge up to date
Person Specification
Skills & Experience
- Experience working in a Learning & Development, HR, People or organisational development environment
- Experience within Training Centre/Academic environment or transferable relative experience
- Experience coordinating learning programmes and training activity
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
- Experience using an LMS, HRIS or other people-management system
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
- Experience within professional sport, football or another high-performance environment. - desirable
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment

- CIPD qualification or active CIPD study - desirable
