The Learning & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the design, delivery, and continual development of the park's conservation education offer. The role brings together school’s programmes, on-site visitor learning, events, and outreach, ensuring our conservation message reaches and inspires the widest possible audience.

This role sits alongside the park's wider commitment to conservation education and supports the standards set out by BIAZA and EAZA, helping ensure our education programmes remain current, evidenced, and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop the Education Team, coordinating workload across school terms, holidays, and events.
  • Design and deliver engaging conservation education sessions for school visits, covering curriculum-linked and bespoke content for a range of ages and abilities.
  • Develop and deliver visitor-facing learning content, including keeper talks, trails, activity sessions, and interpretation materials.
  • Maintain and evolve the park's conservation education plan, ensuring it meets BIAZA and EAZA conservation education standards.
  • Ensure education content accurately reflects the conservation status, welfare needs, and natural history of species at the park, working closely with the keeping team.
  • Build relationships with local schools, colleges, and community groups to grow the education programme's reach.
  • Support the training and development of keepers and volunteers involved in visitor engagement activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of education programmes, using feedback and evaluation frameworks to demonstrate learning outcomes.
  • Ensure all education activity meets relevant safeguarding, health and safety, and accessibility requirements.

Essential

What We're Looking For...

  • Experience delivering education or learning programmes, ideally within a zoo, aquarium, museum, other visitor attraction, or education setting.
  • Confident, engaging communicator, comfortable presenting to school groups, families, and general visitors of all ages.
  • Sound understanding of conservation, animal welfare, and environmental education principles.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan around seasonal demand and juggle competing priorities.
  • Very competent with computers and standard office software, and confident learning new systems quickly.
  • Efficient and confident with paperwork and administrative processes, including record-keeping.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A quick learner, comfortable picking up new processes, systems, and subject knowledge.
  • A genuine passion for conservation and connecting people with the natural world.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with BIAZA and/or EAZA conservation education standards and reporting requirements.
  • A relevant qualification in education, environmental science, zoology, or a related field.
  • Experience developing curriculum-linked school sessions or working with formal accreditation schemes.
  • First Aid certification (training can be provided).

Working Pattern

This role is offered on a flexible part-time basis, typically 1 to 3 days per week. Days and hours will vary across the year to reflect school term dates, half-terms, holiday periods, and park events, with the working pattern agreed and reviewed regularly with the Animal Manager. Some weekend and school holiday availability will be needed at busier times of year.

Growth & Development

This is a newly created role with scope to grow. As the Education Team and programme develop, there is room for the role's scope, responsibilities, and hours to expand over time, alongside ongoing support for professional development in conservation education.
