Learning Mentor: Alternative Provision
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who face barriers to learning? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Mentor to join our team in an Alternative Provision setting in Plymouth.
In this role, you will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Your primary goal will be to help young people re:engage with education, build self:confidence, develop emotional resilience, and reach their full potential in a safe, supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small:group support to students with complex SEMH needs.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning by building strong, trusting relationships.
- Support pupils in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and self:esteem.
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering engaging educational activities adapted to individual student needs.
- Transport students to external activities, vocational placements, or off:site learning sessions around Plymouth when required.
- Maintain positive behaviour strategies and de:escalate challenging situations calmly and effectively.

Qualifications
- Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (in a school, youth work, or alternative provision setting).
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in both Maths and English.
- A valid UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for business use is required.
- High levels of empathy, resilience, patience, and excellent communication skills.
