Our client, a leading education provider in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, is seeking a talented and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), with a particular focus on trauma-informed practice.
Role Overview
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial part in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for our students. Your primary focus will be to assist students with their academic and social-emotional development, ensuring they can thrive and reach their full potential. This role is particularly suited to individuals with a deep understanding of trauma-informed approaches, as you will be working closely with students who have experienced various forms of adversity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students, helping them to engage with the curriculum, develop essential life skills, and navigate the challenges they may face.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other members of the support team to develop individualized strategies and interventions that address each student's unique needs.
- Monitor student progress, document your observations, and communicate regularly with parents and caregivers.
- Build trusting relationships with students and their families to foster a sense of community and belonging within the school.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Our ideal candidate will possess a range of skills and experience, including:
- A deep understanding of trauma-informed practices and their application in an educational setting.
- Experience working with students with special educational needs, particularly those who have experienced trauma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the students.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the well-being and academic success of all students.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a teaching assistant diploma or equivalent, would be highly desirable.
