Learning Support Assistant: Join a Thriving Inclusive Primary School

An ambitious and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets is looking to appoint a committed Learning Support Assistant to strengthen its SEND team from September 2026.

This Learning Support Assistant position will focus on supporting pupils with complex communication needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The role will involve a combination of one-to-one support, small-group interventions, and classroom assistance, helping pupils access learning while developing their confidence, independence, and social skills.

The school has a well-established inclusion team, with regular input from speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and specialist advisory teachers, ensuring pupils receive high-quality, targeted support.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, You Will

  • Support pupils with ASD and communication needs within mainstream classrooms
  • Deliver structured interventions focusing on language, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Use visual timetables, sensory resources, and communication strategies to promote engagement
  • Encourage pupils to participate confidently in classroom and playground activities
  • Monitor progress and work closely with teachers and the SENCO to adapt support where needed
  • Help create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a Learning Support Assistant who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEND, particularly Autism or speech and language needs
  • Is confident delivering structured interventions and supporting individual learning plans
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Is proactive, resilient, and able to build strong relationships with pupils
  • Is passionate about inclusive education and helping children reach their full potential

Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or sensory integration strategies would be advantageous but is not essential.
