Job title: Learning Technologist & Instructional Designer

Salary: c. £44,110 (Grade 6)
Location: London, King’s Cross (Hybrid – Aga Khan Centre / Home)
Department: Department of Education

About the role:

The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) is seeking a creative, technically skilled and learner-focused Learning Technologist & Instructional Designer to support the development of high-quality online, blended and digital learning experiences across the Institute’s educational pathways.

Based within the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC), the role will lead and support activities that promote the effective use of technology in teaching and learning. Working closely with academic colleagues, faculty, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders, the postholder will transform complex academic content into engaging, accessible and pedagogically sound learning experiences for diverse learners.

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative learning professional who is passionate about learner-centred design, educational technology and continuous improvement, and who wants to contribute to impactful educational experiences within a mission-driven academic institution.

What we’re looking for:

  • A bachelor’s degree, ideally in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a related field.
  • Substantial experience in instructional design, e-learning and course development, with a strong understanding of learning theories, curriculum mapping, assessment design and adult learning principles.
  • Strong practical experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Genially, H5P or similar, alongside LMS/VLE platforms such as Moodle, Canvas or Blackboard.
  • Experience designing courses in LMS platforms (e.g. Moodle/Canvas) and managing course structures, enrolments, and user accounts.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with SMEs and manage multiple projects.
  • A commitment to inclusive, accessible, and high-quality learning design.
