Price Western
Price Western have been manufacturing leather and synthetic equipment for the Blue Light sector for over 50 years. The role will involve the development and production of various products using detailed specifications.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
We are looking for an apprentice to join our team and learn all aspects of leather production and fabrication.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience while working alongside skilled professionals in a busy manufacturing environment. Full training will be provided, enabling you to develop valuable skills in leather preparation, machining, sewing, and quality control.
What You'll Be Doing
- Learning how to safely operate cutting press machinery to cut leather and other materials.
- Training in the use of skiving machines to prepare leather components for production.
- Preparing and handling leather ready for fabrication and assembly.
- Developing skills in operating CNC machinery under supervision.
- Assisting with general fabrication and assembly tasks.
- Carrying out quality checks to ensure products meet company standards.
- Learning industrial sewing techniques and completing a variety of sewing tasks.
- Stitching different types of leather and materials to required specifications.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workspace.
- Working as part of a team to achieve production targets and quality objectives.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Comply with personal responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other safety legislation.
- Use equipment in accordance with safe operating procedures and manufacturers’ instructions.
- Dispose safely of waste and surplus materials.
- Identify the correct tools and equipment and use appropriately such as Moisture content testing meter, Thickness measurement gauge, Trimming knives & shears, Edge tools, Pricking iron, Skiving machine and Bench splitter.
- Carry out running maintenance within agreed schedules to ensure the efficiency of machinery, tools and equipment (i.e. settings and preparation of tools) to meet production expectations.
- Read and interpret data from specifications and appropriate work instructions.
- Follow instructions in order to meet customer and company requirements.
- Implement efficient and effective use of materials by closely following instructions and minimizing waste.
- Undertake processes to maintain consistent speed and quality requirements as outlined by the company.
- Communicate effectively with internal/external customers, colleagues and managers and work as part of a team.
- Effectively self-manage their time and work load to meet deadlines.

Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in:

Our business relies on its ability to develop solutions to our customer’s requirements, produce samples and begin production quickly. We anticipate this role developing to embrace a Team Leadership role or design/model making, project management and estimating as required.
